Water Ski Instructions For The Average Guy

Have you ever seen people water ski in amazement and wonder how they do that? Well, water skiing can be easy and fun to learn for anyone with the proper water ski instructions and precautions taken. Are you ready to amaze others with waterski skills?

First, you need to start on dry land. Practice balancing, and get a feeling for the water skis on your feet At first, it may feel awkward, but that is okay! Once you start practicing with them more, it will eventually feel like a second nature.

Second, locate where it is best to shift your weight to maintain balance. Those who try water skiing without understanding this are headed for trouble. Shift your balancing point to the front of your feet, just behind the toes, not farther back on the heels. Trying to balance on the back of your feet will just cause you to fall. Keep trying until you are comfortable with this.

Third, the position of your back is extremely important. Keep your chin up, bend your knees a little bit, straighten your arms fully, and let yourself lean away from the boat. This is unnatural at first, but it canat be avoided.

Fourth, when youave mastered these steps, itas time to get wet. Once youare in the water, ensure that your skis are facing in the direction of the boat. Resist discouragement if you donat get it exactly right on the first or second try. Nobody ever does. When you do get it right, however, remember: keep your chin up and shift your weight to the front of your feet behind your toes.

Fifth, no matter what sport youare participating in, the proper precautions are essential. Never let your boat get closer than 65 meters to any other watercraft. Having this amount of clear space ensures that you will have clear water in which to ski. Also watch for things other than boats in the water such at buoys or swimmers. And donat ever ski if it looks like the weather will not be good (if the water is rough or the swells are large.) Life vests are a required precaution. Never ski without wearing one.

Sixth, ensure that there is a person looking after you the entire time that youare skiing. They need to watch you constantly without ever taking their eyes off of you. Many states have made this a legal requirement. Having someone observe you is vital to your safety. If you do have an accident while skiing, the observer will let the person in charge of driving know exactly where you are.

If you have read through these water ski instructions, then you are ready to go water skiing! Remember, start on land, find your balance, keep your posture, keep safety first, and always have an observer. Good luck and always wear your safety jacket.
